Impressions from Australia 2014

After much deliberation, I was able to narrow down my nearly 2,000 photos from the Chris Henry & the Hardcore Grass Australian Tour 2014 to some interesting and beautiful highlights. It was very difficult, and this is by no means a complete documentation, but I hope it provides you with a little insight into my perspective during my first trip to Australia and the band’s first Australian tour. All photos were taken by me unless otherwise noted. They are arranged in chronological order. Click to view full-size and the captions. Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Corrina

Australia Tour 2014!

Corrina is happy to announce that for the next 5 weeks, she’ll be touring in Australia with Chris Henry and the Hardcore Grass. It’s been a busy season — so busy that most dates failed to make it to the Schedule page this year — but luckily you can find all of the Australian destinations detailed here in the featured image. Corrina *hopes* to — at the request of many — post some goodies about the travels while abroad. Do make sure you check on ol’ Facebook as well (www.facebook.com/corrina.rose.logston) for travel gems and updates from down under!

High Fidelity wins SPBGMA IBC!!!

On February 2, 2014, at the 40th anniversary SPBGMA Bluegrass Music Awards & 31st National Convention, High Fidelity was announced as the winner of the International Band Championship. High Fidelity, consisting of Corrina Rose Logston (fiddle/vocals), Jeremy Stephens (guitar/vocals), Kurt Stephenson (banjo/vocals), Vickie Vaughn (bass), and Daniel Amick (mandolin), performed in the style of traditional bluegrass for all three rounds of the band contest. While they wanted to do well, the members were shocked at the announcement that they had won.

“I cried like a baby,” said Corrina. “There were so many good bands in that contest. It was a very emotional experience for me, especially because we had committed to doing all traditional bluegrass. As far as I understand, we were the only group to do that. It means so much to me that we were able to represent traditional bluegrass and to do so to this level of recognition. Because to me, it isn’t just a win for us — it says, ‘This music is still relevant — this music is still meaningful.’ It will always hold the utmost meaning to me.”

SPBGMA is the acronym for Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America. Its convention is an annual destination for bluegrass fans worldwide.

In Retrospect: 2013 (by Corrina)

It’s been a lively season. In fact, it’s been so lively that the website has remained largely static for the majority of it, with the exception of [attempting to keep up with] the schedule, which also fell off the radar somewhere before Valerie Smith and “The Liberty Pike Girls” went to Europe. But, as they say, you can’t fully live your life and write about it at the same time — or something like that… Either way, I thought a personal note from me was in order to give some highlights about season 2013 and all the living/performing/jamming that took place in it!

The season kicked off with the record release EXTRAVAGANZA of Wind Caught My Bike in Nashville, followed by fiddling for a bluegrass ballet with Stone County Connection in Jackson, Tennessee. The summer yielded a barrage of adventures, including an instrument pilgrimage to the old Gibson factory while in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with Grace Adele and The Grand Band.

And I transformed into Minnie Pearl.

Galax was hopping this year, and IBMA in Raleigh proved to be a winning event. Then it was off to Europe for nearly the entire month of October with Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike, AKA “The Liberty Pike Girls.”

My favorite festival of the year is probably a tie between (1) Graves’ Mountain Festival of Music (Syria, Virginia), which I was introduced to while performing with Chris Henry and The Hardcore Grass in May, and (2) Seratoma Youth Ranch Bluegrass Festival (Brooksville, Florida), which was also a first-time event for me while performing with David Peterson and 1946 in November. Both are wonderful festivals that I would highly recommend.

Needless to say, my big New Year’s resolution is to share more stuff with you all on here. There are still more features we want to add to the website and make it the best it can be. So, in closing, I want to say a big thank you to every one of you for your support and friendship this year. I hope 2014 is a real winner for you all.

Sincerely,

Corrina Rose Logston

Playing Poole

http://www.oldbluerecords.com/OBCD712Info.html

We’re excited to announce A Tribute To Charlie Poole is now out and available on Old Blue Records. This old-time project showcases Kinney Rorrer, who was featured in the documentary Give Me the Banjo (2011) telling some lively tales about his kin Charlie Poole, here singing the songs of Charlie Poole. Kinney is assisted by Jeremy Stephens and Darren Moore as The New North Carolina Ramblers, with Corrina adding second fiddle on 4 tracks.

Corrina commented, “I was super excited for an excuse to really study the music of Charlie Poole. We kept all the melodies for the twin fiddle songs as close to the original recordings as possible and arranged the harmony in the style of that time period. I’m very happy with how it all came together.”

You can find more information on the new release by visiting the direct link above or find out more about Old Blue Records at www.oldbluerecords.com.
